Prisms on a lens are not surgery. They’re not a drug. They’re prisms on a lens. We find that many doctors recommend waiting 6 months to ensure there’s no spontaneous recovery, and then prescribe the prisms for visual field expansion. Why? There is absolutely no evidence that expanding a patient’s visual field awareness in rehab has adverse effects on spontaneous recovery of visual field. With so many patients reporting improved mobility and awareness with peripheral prisms, why would you wait to fit them?
