Avulux Migraine Glasses

The Avulux® lens is a patented multi-band precision optical filter that absorbs up to 97% of the most harmful blue, amber, and red light while allowing soothing green light through.

The Avulux lens was designed by neuro-ophthalmology and optics researchers to selectively absorb the most harmful wavelengths of light while allowing in soothing green light specifically for people with migraine to effectively manage the impact of light.

A first for any optical lens, the Avulux precision optical filter proved its efficacy when compared to placebo in an independent, randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled study – the highest scientific standard.

Avulux Lens Portfolio

Clinically proven lens for Migraine & Light Sensitivity

Not all light filtering is equal. The result of over a decade of rigorous research and development, Avulux Migraine & Light Sensitivity Lenses deliver 2x better light quality than conventional light management lenses — precisely filtering harmful wavelengths while preserving soothing green light.

Avulux comfort, inside and out.

In its inactive state, Avulux Adapt matches the spectral curve of the clinically proven Avulux lens: filtering harmful blue, amber, and red light while allowing soothing green light through. When exposed to UV light outdoors, photochromic molecules within the lens activate, causing the lens to darken, then quickly return to standard Avulux clarity indoors.

In addition to 2x better light quality indoors, you'll get near-total protection from harmful light outdoors when the lens is fully activated.

Outdoor vision, the Avulux way.

Designed for outdoor enthusiasts, Avulux Atlas lenses deliver superior comfort, safety, and visual clarity in intense sunlight. Atlas minimizes squinting and visual fatigue during outdoor activities by blocking harsh reflected light from surfaces like water, roads, snow, and glass.

Atlas delivers 2x better light quality than a neutral polarized lens — precisely filtering harmful wavelengths while reducing glare.

THE SCIENCE BEHIND THE LENS

HISTORICAL MIGRAINE TREATMENTS

Prior to Avulux lenses, the options available to your patients with severe light sensitivity were scarce. They ranged from dark sunglasses, which could cause someone chronic dark adaptation (meaning eyes become adapted to darkness and may become even more sensitive to light) if used continuously, to an FL-41 tint, originally created to reduce the impact of the flickering of fluorescent lighting.

CONE-DRIVEN RETINAL PATHWAYS

In 2016, 69 migraine patients were assessed during an untreated migraine attack to determine the impact of light on the intensity of their headache, throbbing, muscle tenderness, and cephalic areas affected by pain.

Harvard researchers placed these subjects into a dark room and exposed them to varying colors of light.

Findings: White, blue, amber, and red light all increased migraine headache pain. Low intensity green light reduced pain.

Bar chart showing change in headache intensity (VAS) across different light intensities (cd/m²) and colors: white, blue, green, amber, and red. Green light shows a decrease in headache intensity, while other colors indicate an increase, especially at higher intensities."

AVULUX LENS PRECISION FILTRATION

The Avulux lenses use a patented nano-molecular technology to selectively filter harmful wavelengths of light while allowing soothing green light through. This precise filtration targets wavelengths that

  • induce melanopsin activation; and,
  • generate larger electrical signals that can lead to pain via the optic nerve. Wearing Avulux lenses before and during any exposure to harsh light may help those living with migraines.
