Manufacturing. When most people hear the word, they picture mindless assembly lines and giant, faceless factories. But that’s not what we do here. As a company, Chadwick Optical has been around since 1980. Since then, we’ve become more than a specialty lens lab with low vision devices.
Recently, we had some incredibly bright students from Blockson Middle School stop by to see exactly what “manufacturing” looks like when it actually changes people’s lives. They were here to film a profile on Chadwick Optical for the Philadelphia Region student video contest, run by the Delaware Valley Industrial Resource Center (DVIRC). The whole point of the contest is to get kids excited about careers in manufacturing.
And honestly? They nailed it.
More Than Just Grinding Lenses
Having these kids in the lab was a blast. It gave us a chance to show the next generation that manufacturing isn’t just about making things. It’s about solving problems.
We didn’t just show them how to grind a lens. We showed them why we do it. We explained how we build solutions for patients who have been left behind by the standard system. We build things that actually change lives.
Seeing these middle schoolers connect the dots between raw materials and real human impact was genuinely cool. They captured the exact energy of our lab: we take our mission extremely seriously, but we have a lot of fun getting the work done.
Let The Work Speak For Itself
We don’t compete with other people on being faster or cheaper. We state what we offer, explain why we offer it, then let the work speak for itself. Right now, we want these students’ hard work to speak for itself, too.
Each annual contest features an online vote for its Viewers Choice Award, coming later this year. Be sure to check back here for instructions on voting! Let’s show these kids that doing good, meaningful work actually matters.
